Using a Kinect v2 you can bring your arms into AltspaceVR, enhancing non-verbal communication and expression in a variety of ways! To enable Kinect v2 support for AltspaceVR, you need:
- Windows 8 PC or Laptop with USB 3.0 port
- Kinect v2 for Windows, or Xbox One Kinect + Kinect Adapter for Windows
- Camera Tripod (optional)
Once the Kinect v2 is properly connected to a USB 3.0 port, Windows 8 should automatically recognize the hardware and install software drivers. If the software drivers do not automatically install when you plug in the Kinect v2, download and install the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0.
AltspaceVR will automatically recognize the Kinect v2, and you will find that your avatar has arms!
For best results, we recommend that the Kinect v2 be positioned at shoulder height, and that the Oculus positional camera be placed near the Kinect v2 facing the same direction. Ideal setup is pictured below.
